After having to cook all the way through uni (one of the few students who cooked 95% of my meals) and then returning home to have to cook for my dad and sister I've kind of become sick of cooking so hoping these new recipes will keep more more motivated to cook more.
I've tried a few recipes from the cookbook over the weekend. Me and my sister made some of the protein balls… we kind of improvised with some -okay most of the ingredients, but they tasted pretty good, kind of too good actually I wanted to eat the whole tray! They keep in your fridge for 2 weeks and we made three different types from the book, one was a post-work out, one pre-work out and one protein ball.
I've been having these as a pick me up around 4pm at work before I go to the gym or in the evening after my dinner, they are quite high in calories due to their ingredients so I've refrained from having more than 2 in one sitting.
Another recipe I tried was turkey meatballs in an italian sauce with courgetti. I invited the girls round Friday evening for dinner.. it quickly escalated into a litre of gin and dancing until 5am - but at least we had a healthy nutritious dinner beforehand! I've recently bought a spiraliser which I absolutely love (£12.50 from amazon) its so easy to use and can fit in the draw with all of the cutlery as I hate having loads of appliances all over side. We topped the meatballs with a little feta and voila! - a quick easy healthy meal which didn't cost us too much (cheaper than the takeaway we had hungover Saturday anyway).
(My sister needs to work on her photos of food - I can assure you this taste better than it looks)
The first section of the book has a six week plan towards eating better - First week is sugar, I am really trying to cut down on sugar (even artificial).. I've recently given up Diet coke, which for anyone who knows me is kind of a big deal. The first few days were hard but I read so many bad things - including in Women's Health a statement indicating that drinking diet coke could increase your waist size by 3 inches every year - Holy crap!
I'll be hoping to try out more of the recipes in the upcoming week, once I drag myself to do a food shop! Has anyone else tried any of Madeleine's recipes?
